{"id":2050,"date":"2020-02-21T05:21:48","date_gmt":"2020-02-21T05:21:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/loveuniversity.love\/testsite\/?p=2050"},"modified":"2020-06-25T05:42:55","modified_gmt":"2020-06-25T05:42:55","slug":"nelson-diaz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/loveuniversity.love\/testsite\/nelson-diaz\/","title":{"rendered":"Live from Miami book fair: special guest, Nelson Diaz, first latino judge in Pennysvania and presidential appointee: from illiterate to invincible"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none;\" title=\"LIVE FROM MIAMI BOOK FAIR: SPECIAL GUEST, NELSON DIAZ, FIRST LATINO JUDGE IN PENNYSVANIA AND PRESIDENTIAL APPOINTEE: FROM ILLITERATE TO INVINCIBLE\" src=\"https:\/\/www.podbean.com\/media\/player\/u5kc9-d45fa4?from=usersite&amp;skin=1&amp;share=1&amp;fonts=Helvetica&amp;auto=0&amp;download=1&amp;version=1\" width=\"100%\" height=\"122\" scrolling=\"no\" data-name=\"pb-iframe-player\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We had the grand pleasure of having an esteemed guest on Love University, Nelson Diaz, former Judge, Presidential Appointee, and acclaimed author (<em>Not<\/em>\u00a0from Here,\u00a0<em>Not<\/em>\u00a0from There).\u00a0\u00a0Nelson, known as the \u201cCompassionate Judge,\u201d enlightened us with his personal story of elevation and transformation growing up poor, discriminated against, and illiterate, and ultimately becoming an influential advocate for court and legislative reform on behalf of disadvantaged people everywhere.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Here are some of the nuggets of wisdom we learned from Judge Diaz:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>*Reject \u201cRejection\u201d<\/b>:\u00a0\u00a0Judge Diaz explains how he was initially rejected from college and law school, but persisted to become the first Puerto Rican person to take the Pennsylvania Bar Exam. In addition, he faced many obstacles along the way (his house was torn down due to discrimination; he was profiled by police; he was deemed to \u201ctoo ethnic\u201d to be in politics), but he never gave up. He worked for presidential administrations and became a high-powered judge because he kept repeating to himself: \u201cI am good enough and smart enough\u2014they have to take me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>*If You Take Two Steps Forward and One Step Backward, You Are Still Making Progress:<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0Judge Diaz says that discipline is the way to overcome a negative mindset, including shame.\u00a0\u00a0He indicates how criminals in jail may have bright minds, but they are living in shame because they get down on themselves and often don\u2019t have the right opportunities (resulting in frustration and anger). His advice: No matter what mistakes you have made in the past, realize that you are a person of worth\u2014you are not junk. Find a mentor who can help take you to the next level, and believe in a higher power (God)\u2014doing so will help you realize that nothing is impossible.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>*Always Push the Envelope:\u00a0\u00a0Don\u2019t accept limits within yourself<\/b>:\u00a0\u00a0If you find your passion, and you feel, deep down, that you are doing the right thing, keep pushing forward.\u00a0\u00a0Don\u2019t let anyone tell you what you can or can\u2019t do, and don\u2019t tell yourself what you\u2019re not capable of doing. You don\u2019t know what you can achieve unless you exert maximum effort and focus toward your highest goals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Help Your Neighbor and Help Yourself:<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Helping our communities\u2014helping others find jobs; counseling children, minorities, and the disadvantaged; contributing to end poverty and loneliness\u2014is one of the best ways to improve our own mindset and success.\u00a0\u00a0As we always say in Love University\u2014extend loving energy without expectation on a daily basis\u2014you will not only help others build a bridge of positivity and development, but you will also help yourself reach your highest potential in life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Judge Diaz concludes by telling us that he was deemed a failure at 15, but he didn\u2019t let that stigma stop him from achieving great success in the political and humanitarian fields.\u00a0\u00a0As long as you are still here on earth, you can make a positive difference in the world\u2014participate in your community with integrity, be an activist for love and change, and keep yourself relevant in our changing world.
